Read & Share the Building Healthy Community - Renfrew County Picture
The Renfrew County Healthy Communities Partnership (HCP) is made up of stakeholders committed to improving the quality of life and health of our communities and residents. The focus of the initiative is on the following six priority areas:
- Physical Activity, Sport and Recreation
- Injury Prevention
- Healthy Eating
- Reducing Tobacco Use and Exposure
- Preventing Substance and Alcohol Misuse
- Mental Health
With funding from the Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport, the HCP is spearheading the development of a comprehensive Renfrew County Community Picture setting the stage for a multi-sector collaborative promoting communities that support:
- healthy spaces
- health equity
- higher quality of life for all residents
- vibrant destinations for all visitors
Effective communication, co-ordination and action are directly contributing to this collaboration. With an accurate community picture, the HCP will use the data to:
- set priorities
- establish recommendationsfor increased public awareness
- develop healthy policies
- co-ordinate planning and action

79 representatives from a broad range of sectors gathered to share a vision for improving the quality of life in Renfrew County, with a focus on: transportation, physical activity, health and well being, education, family, school, work, health care, social services,early childhood education and environmental sustainability.
Building Active and Healthy Communities

Renfrew County hosted Gil Penalosa, the Executive Director of 8-80 Cities and international speaker. promoting the value of active communities. Approximately 60 participants attended this event, which was hosted in partnership with Green Communities of Canada and Canada Walks. More>
Creating a Better Future for Our Children

The Child Poverty Action Network in partnership with Algonquin College, the Phoenix Centre for Children and Families, Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition, and Renfrew County United Way hosted over 200 delegates to raise awareness around the Social Determinants of Health and engage community stakeholders. Renfrew County - Healthy Communities Partnership - Building Healthier Community

At this community engagement session, an open dialogue format was used to determine stakeholder perspective and priorities relevant to their vision of a healthy community. Input for each priority was collected through group discussion and presented to the plenary of 72 delegates. Recommended action plans for each of the identified priorities were developed and prioritized by the group as a whole.
Share the Road - Discussions on Value of Active Transporation to the Health of our Communities
